Kian Egan has debunked rumours that the Irish boyband are planning a big reunion, after The Sun claimed they were in talks with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco for a comeback album and tour.
“Guys, I’m sorry to say but I don’t know where these rumours are coming from about a Westlife reunion but it’s untrue. Sorry #weslifeforever [sic]” he wrote on Twitter, breaking fans’ hearts.
A source reportedly told The Sun that "a new album could be released late next year with a tour to follow in 2016". but the comments have been confirmed as false by Egan.
However, The Mirror is now reporting that a source has told them that Westlife are discussing the possibility of a comeback with Syco but it is very early days and may not happen.
Egan, Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne and Mark Feehily called quits on Westlife in 2012 after Brian McFadden left in 2004 to spend more time with family and work on solo projects.
Originally managed by Louis Walsh, the pop group formed in 1998 and went on to score 14 UK number one singles.
Despite their global success, however, Westlife never broke the US market and achieved just one hit single state-side in 2000 with “Swear It Again”.
Band reunions have been hitting headlines recently, with Nineties group S Club 7 teaming up for a comeback on this year's Children in Need.
All seven original bandmates - Rachel Stevens, Hannah Spearritt, Paul Cattermole, Bradley McIntosh, Tina Barrett, Jon Lee and Jo O’Meara - are reuniting for a sell-out tour next year.
