From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It’s been a long while since we’ve heard new material from The Strokes; the last officially released material from the band was the 2013 album Comedown Machine.

Finally, after three years, the band has announced the release of a new song titled “OBLIVIUS”, the first single off their upcoming, four track EP Future Present Past.

The EP will be released next Friday and features the songs "Drag Queen" and "Threat of Joy", as well as a remix of “OBLIVIUS" by Fab Moretti. You can listen to the new EP on Spotify now.

OBLIVIUSdebuted on Julian Casablancas' new radio show ‘Culture Void’, which will air on US radio station Sirius XMU once a month.

Hours before the track debuted on the station, Casablancas announced the show would feature new music, with very few other details announced.

Billboards popped up around London and New York 24 hours before the announcement, teasing the release; only the words “Future,” “Present,” and “Past” featured on the boards with no meaning attached at the time.

While the radio show was airing, a video of the band answering questions appeared on YouTube, also featuring some nostalgic footage of a performance of “Someday” from their debut album.

The Strokes didn’t tour Comedown Machine, only playing select festivals over the course of two years. The last they appeared in the UK was a headline set for British Summer Time at London’s Hyde Park in 2015. Earlier this year, the band promised to premiere two new songs at Governor's Ball 2016, which takes place in June.
