From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr has been hinting that their first new songs in half a decade could be on the set list, responding to a fan’s Twitter question with: “You’ll just have to wait and see”.
He also replied to another fan asking when their next album will be released with “tomorrow”, which sadly seems unlikely, but anything’s possible.
Bassist Nikolai Fraiture has also been cranking up excitement for the show on Twitter, asking fans to send over their song requests.
The Strokes will play the festival at Randall Island’s Park from 4 to 6 June alongside Kanye West and Beck. It will be their first Big Apple gig since they headlined the same event in 2014.
The influential group’s last album was Comedown Machine in 2013, but organisers said in a recent AMA session that they had been promised new material for the festival.
The Strokes gigs have been few and far between recently, with their British Summer Time Hyde Park show in 2015 their only UK performance this decade.
