From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

This year marks 22 years since Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain died, and while it's never necessary to be reminded of just how great his vocals were, a clip of raw mic footage has now resurfaced to do just that.

People are re-sharing the isolated vocals of 1991 song "Polly" which is taken from Nirvana's second studio album Nevermind. The track was inspired by a newspaper article about a 14-year-old girl who was kidnapped, tortured and raped after a rock show in Washington.

This isn't the first time somebody has taken Cobain's recognisable voice and isolated his vocals; in the past, classic songs like "Smells like Teen Spirit" have been given similar treatment.

Last year, raw mic footage of Adele was released following her grandstanding performance on Saturday Night Live.

The singer's rendition of "Hello" went viral at the same time her third studio album 25 took the world by storm.

Cobain's wife Courtney Love paid tribute to the singer on her birthday earlier on this year by sharing an old photo of the couple.
