The rapper and fashion designer announced his bid on Independence Day, with just four months until polling day on 3 November, the
“We must now realise the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,” West, 43, wrote on social media. “I am running for president of the United States.”
It remains unclear whether West has completed the official paperwork necessary to make such a bid, which many people are dismissing on social media as a “PR stunt”.
Shortly after West made the announcement, Kardashian West, 39, retweeted the post alongside an emoji of the American flag.
Elon Musk also responded to the news. “You have my full support!” the Tesla billionaire wrote on Twitter.
Donald Trump and Joe Biden are yet to address the rapper’s claim.
No additional comment has been made about West’s bid, but the Grammy Award winner has made no secret of his plans to run for president. However, he previously said he would wait until the 2024 election.
“If I decide to do it, it will be done, I’m not going to try,” he said in a radio interview with Power 92 Chicago’s DJ Pharris, adding: “Yes, 100 per cent it could happen… 2024.”
Kardashian, who recently became a billionaire, married West in 2014.
They have four children together: daughter North, 7, son Saint, 4, daughter Chicago, 2, and one-year-old son, Psalm.
Kardashian’s family, including mother Kris and sister Khloe, are at the centre of long-running series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which documents their life as celebrities.
She is currently training to become a lawyer. Her father, Robert Kardashian, gained national recognition as OJ Simpson’s friend and defence attorney during his 1995 murder trial.
West’s songs include “Stronger”, “No Church in the Wild” and “Runaway”, which featured on 2010 record My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy.
