It seems that Beck has Kanye West to thank for the huge sales spike in his latest album following Sunday night’s Grammys.

The US singer-songwriter beat favourite Sam Smith to pick up the Album of the Year gong for Morning Phase, but his rapper rival was far from happy with the result.

Just as Beck began his acceptance speech, West stormed the stage and gestured that he was about to begin declaring Beyoncé’s album “the best of all time” and deserving of the award again, as he did (seriously) to Taylor Swift five years ago.

Luckily for Beck, the headline-grabbing moment has shot Morning Phase up Amazon’s albums chart, with sales rising by a massive 1342 per cent.

Swift kissed and made up with West backstage at the 2015 ceremony, where he continued to rant about the Grammys “not respecting artistry” and being “disrespectful to inspiration”. All that jazz.

“I was just so excited he was coming up,” Beck told US magazine after the incident. “He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?”

On whether he agreed that Beyoncé should have won the award, Beck said, “absolutely”. “I thought she was going to win. Come on she’s Beyoncé!

“You can’t please everybody, man. I still love [West] and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”

Sales of Smith’s In The Lonely Hour have also rocketed on Amazon, more than tripling after he took home four awards to be crowned the night’s big winner.
