From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

This year will feature several duets between veteran singers and modern pop stars, including Annie Lennox and Hozier and Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga.
Oscar-nominated Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is teaming up with Gwen Stefani, while John Legend, Ariana Grande, Madonna, Miranda Lambert and Pharrell Williams are among the other acts taking to the stage.
British artists Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith will also perform at the annual music awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday 8 February.
Rihanna is rumoured to be joining the line-up for a performance of new single “Four Five Seconds” with Paul McCartney and Kanye West, but this is yet to be confirmed.
Sheeran, Smith and Pharrell lead the nominations list with six nods each.
“Throughout the years, the Grammy Awards has paired musical icons with new, upcoming artists to give fans remarkable performances that can only be seen on our stage,” said Neil Portnow, Recording Academy president and CEO.
“This year is no different and, once again, promises to bring together unique musical worlds in innovative ways that blend genres and create new artistic boundaries.”
The Grammys are known for the bizarre and often controversial moments that occur most years. Last year’s event saw Queen Latifah marry 33 couples to “Same Love” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Taylor Swift headbang and Beyonce duet with her rapper husband Jay Z.
