From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Barbie: The Album dominates Best Song Written for Visual Media category

In terms of songs written for films, all eyes are on Barbie: the soundtrack album for the hit film has received four of five nominations.

As well as Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken”, nominees include Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”, “Dance the Night” by Dua Lipa and the infectious “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice featuring Aqua.

The only non-Barbie-affiliated song in the category is “Lift Me Up” by Rihanna for Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever.

Despite all the love the Grammy committee has shown Barbie: The Album, for The Independent’s reviewer Adam White, is was reminiscent of the film, in that it “can’t decide on a consistent tone or approach, instead ping-ponging between satire and celebration, sincerity and spoof”. Eek!

Here’s the review in full:

The Barbie soundtrack is as erratic as the movie that inspired it – review

Unusually, the bigger names here – including Dua Lipa and Sam Smith – are the most underwhelming
