The Oasis guitarist told NME that he could not live in a world where such an event was possible. “When you hear that kind of polished pop and then there’s a ginger guy with a f**king guitar, it seems subversive – but it’s f**king not,” he said, in yet another rant at the state of modern music.
Sheeran has sold out three gigs at the 80,000 capacity London stadium in July and will perform at the Grammy Awards state-side on 8 February alongside Madonna and AC/DC. His second album X was the biggest-selling album of 2014.
Despite the evident success of singer-songwriters like Sheeran, Gallagher has been relentlessly railing against the state of the industry today, branding any band who reaches number one "automatically s**t" and blaming social media for the lack of outspoken rockers.
"It's a strange time and it seems like the whole thing is embedded for good now, for f**king forever," he said.
