From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In July, the rapper appeared on Lil Wayne’s Young Money Radio, where he said black women “get mad, they get angry” when black men have relationships with women of different ethnicities.
“You see a lot of sisters and they be like, ‘Oh you f***ing with this kind of girl?’” he said. “That s*** is exotic! This s*** look different from what you see in the hood every day.”
In a new interview with Haute Living, he tried to explain himself. “What I said exactly was: ‘When the person is from somewhere other than what you’ve experienced, the communication is a little different because they come from different walks of life,’” said the artist.
“And when I said that, [people said], ‘You don’t think black girls are exotic.’ And I said, ‘They be angry when they see a black man with someone else other than African-American women in general.”
While the rapper has refused to apologise for these comments, he did recently issue an apology to Megan Thee Stallion for joking about her shooting.
This week, Megan shared a graphic picture of her gunshot wound on social media after trolls accused her of lying about being shot.
