Maisie Williams has been busy making a name for herself with starring roles in Game of Thrones and Cyberbully and soon, she will be seen in upcoming BBC film The Falling.

The English actress plays troubled 16-year-old Lydia Lamont in the dark movie, which focuses on a mysterious fainting epidemic at an all-girls school in the late Sixties.

Florence Pugh stars alongside Williams in her first role as her rebellious best friend Abbie Mortimer, while Maxine Peake plays her agoraphobic mother Eileen. Monica Dolan is eccentric headmistress Miss Alvaro and Greta Scacchi her fearsome deputy, Miss Mantel.

“Nobody knows who I am anymore, what I’m really like, what I think about doing,” Lydia says eerily in voiceover, as Miss Alvaro insists that “this is a school, not a mental institution”.

Sex and hysteria play leading roles in this film, which has received a warm reception in first look reviews so far.

The Falling is set for UK release on 24 April, shortly after Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic for its hotly-awaited fifth series. Williams’ character Arya Stark is tipped to have a major storyline.

Williams is due to begin shooting Bill Purple’s The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea with Jason Sudeikis and Jessica Biel. The film follows the growing friendship between a witty young girl and a shy architect after the death of his wife.
