From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tom Holland has revealed there was a certain task he refused to do for the new Spider-Man film.

The British actor, 24, quickly became one of the most famous actors in the world after being cast as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016.

After making his debut in Captain America: Civil War that same year, he went on to star in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and two standalone Spider-Man films.

Despite largely seeming to have retained his easygoing nature, Holland says he decided to assert his star power when asked to do one thing in particular while filming the as-of-yet untitled sequel.

The problem arose after he was given a “cooler” haircut for the video game adaptation Uncharted that he was filming before his Spider-Man return.

“My hair in Uncharted is much cooler,” he told Esquire. “I have cool shaved sides and it’s slick at the back, and that’s not very Peter Parker. He’s a bit of a loser.”

It was because of this that Marvel producers gave him a wig “that was [for] just around the sides” of his head.

“For the first time in my life, I put my foot down as the leading actor and was like, ‘I’m not f***ing wearing that wig. You can just... I’m going to have shorter hair and you’re going to have to deal with it.’”

Spider-Man 3 is scheduled to be released in December 2021. Uncharted is set to follow two months later.

Holland's new film, Cherry, will be released on Apple TV+ on 12 March.
