Besides its star-studded cast, details around Matt Reeves’s superhero film have been kept tightly under wraps. Fans, however, have been able to piece together a few parts of the puzzle using images of film set as production has resumed in the UK.
Among the unknown details, there has been mystery surrounding the film’s time setting. Some fans have theorised that the Robert Pattinson-led reboot might be a prequel to Batman v Superman, with Pattinson playing the same version of Batman portrayed by Ben Affleck in the 2016 movie.
After seeing the newly released photos of the cast filming in Liverpool, others have speculated that the forthcoming film could even be a period piece.
Now, a new photo from the set of The Batman appears to reveal the film’s time setting as 2019.
The picture – taken and shared by journalist Brandon Davis – shows a taxi cab emblem stuck “on a ‘taxi cab’ on the movie’s set in Chicago”.
The sticker reads “Gotham City Taxi and Limousine Commission”, with the year 2019 clearly visible on the right.
It is likely then that The Batman will feature a modern setting and a new version of the caped crusader.
As well as Pattinson’s Dark Knight, the film stars Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Paul Dano as Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
The Batman will be released on 4 March 2022, after its previous 2021 release date was pushed back earlier this month.
