From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Forthcoming superhero adaptation The Batman has resumed filming in Liverpool, despite increased lockdown restrictions.

The city was one of several to be placed under Tier Three restrictions, the UK government’s strictest band of lockdown rules, due to a sharp rise in the number of coronavirus cases.

Photographs of the set depict Robert Pattinson’s Batman riding through the streets of Liverpool.

Residents of Liverpool are currently forbidden from socialising with different households both indoors and out.

Businesses such as bars, betting shops, casinos, gyms, and pubs that do not serve meals are also being temporarily closed.

A spokesman for Liverpool City Council insisted that safety measures are still being adhered to.

“The new restrictions in Liverpool will not impact on filming in the city,” the spokesman told PA. News. “The Film Office is working closely with every single production to ensure Covid-safe measures are in place and are being adhered to.”

Production had only recently restarted near London, having been on hiatus for around six month during the pandemic.

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves, the filmmaker best known for his acclaimed franchise sequels Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017).

As well as Pattinson’s dark knight, the film stars Colin Farrell as Penguin, Paul Dano as Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
