From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. With the release of Suicide Squad impending, dozens upon dozens of new clips have hit the internet, revealing yet more about the villainous team.

However, none have been as spoilerific as a new toy revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con, possibly confirming a popular fan theory.

We say spoiler, this is all still speculation, but if you want to go into the film with nothing possibly spoilt, perhaps click away now, maybe onto this piece explaining why the film has been rated 15 in the UK.

SUICIDE SQUAD - Final trailer

Still here? Like us, then, you’re a spoiler fiend, willing to ruin films for the greater good. Well, this new piece of information should get your brain theorising.

At Comic Con, Hot Toys revealed a figure of the Joker dressed in Batman’s outfit covered in graffiti. As you can see from pictures Tweeted by attendees, the face underneath the mask has white skin and mangled teeth, so we can assume it’s not Bruce Wayne underneath the mask.

According to reports, all other figurines on display show characters known to be in the movie, and so it is presumed this one will also feature somewhere. This wouldn’t be the first time a toy has spoilt a major plot point in a superhero film: before the release of Captain America: Civil War, a Giant Man toy ruined the surprise that Ant-Man would turn big in the film.

So, what does Joker-Batman mean for Suicide Squad? Does he somehow capture Batman and take his costume? More likely, he somehow steals it, meaning the Joker must have knowledge of the Batcave. If so, could the Joker actually be Robin turned bad, as many fans have presumed? (Zack Snyder has previously 'debunked' this theory, but he could have been lying.)

Meanwhile, a new trailer for Suicide Squad recently hit the internet, showing who is really pulling the strings behind the team.
