Suicide Squad: Harley Quinn isn't the only character to be getting a spin-off
DC's sticking to its plans to expand Suicide Squad into an expansive multi-film franchise - with a sequel already in the works

Your support makes all the difference.Suicide Squad's critical mauling didn't end up having much of an effect on the film's box office, so it's no surprise to see DC pushing ahead with expanding the franchise.
The film already seems to have had a sequel in the works before it even hit cinemas, with the project still ticking nicely along as the rest of the DCEU moves ahead with the likes of Wonder Woman and Justice League.
However, it looks as if DC are keen to expand the Suicide Squad brand even further, with the studio now eyeing spin-offs for the film's two most popular characters.
Alongside the announced Harley Quinn spin-off, which just landed a title and a director, The Hollywood Reporter mentions DC is also looking to bring a solo adventure for Deadshot to screen.
A Deadshot-focused film actually seems like one of the strongest moves DC could be making right now; Will Smith's always going to be a major draw for audiences, and the character's backstory has enough complexity to potentially deliver something very interesting.
Smith also seems keen to go new places with the character, since he stated recently in an interview that the reason he turned down Independence Day: Resurgence for Suicide Squad was because, "I do want to aggressively go forward and do new things and create and hopefully be able to stumble upon a new heyday."
That said, Harley Quinn's spin-off already appears to have veered off in entirely the wrong direction for the character, so it's hard to put full faith in how their plans for Deadshot will pan out.
