Earlier this year, Hollywood Reporter claimed that, following the Han Solo movie, the studio are indeed planning on an Obi-Wan-centred project with Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry attached.
While there’s still no word on whether Ewan McGregor will return, having played the character in the prequels, there’s already reportedly a date set for filming.
Omega Underground discovered an update from Pinewood Studios, revealing Daldry, along with LucasFilm head Kathleen Kennedy and producer Tracey Seaward, have booked the iconic London-based studio for January 2019.
While there’s no confirmation Daldry has the job, nor that the project definitely revolves around Obi-Wan Kenobi, the stars certainly seem aligned for that to be the case.
Should filming begin January 2019, that would align with the schedules of other Star Wars projects, which have filmed in January for a December the following year release. Chances a Kenobi movie could be in cinemas comes December 2020.
Meanwhile, the next instalment in the main saga, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, reaches cinemas this week, a selection of social media reviews having been posted.
