From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Between the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, Han Solo and Leia Organa had a child (Kylo Ren) and split up.

However, in the JJ Abrams directed film, they fail to address why the star-crossed lovers broke off their romance, something actor Carrie Fisher has since explained.

Speaking at the Saskatoon Comic & Entertainment Expo, via NB, she said: “He smuggled way too much. And girls, I know you don’t want your husband smuggling, do you? Hanging out with the hairy guy too often. I think there are a lot of problems with that. He wouldn’t take me on that hyperspace thing enough… [that’s a] euphemism”

While being a highlight of the original trilogy, General Leia was barely seen in The Force Awakens, something that will hopefully not be the case in Star Wars 8. Better yet, with her inclusion in the upcoming film, that presumably means more wonderful Fisher interviews, something we look forward to greatly.

Meanwhile, in other Star Wars related news, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed there will be films based in the Galaxy far, far away every year until 2021 at least, meaning an ‘experimental’ anthology film in 2020.
