From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Speaking at an investors conference, Disney CEO Bog Iger revealed he's met with LucasFilm head Kathleen Kennedy in order to map out the Star Wars franchise from 2021 and beyond (via Variety); with the studio having already found a writer for another spinoff pitched for 2020, which could potentially be the long-rumoured Boba Fett anthology film.

The speech also offered some interesting insight into Disney's position on this year's Rogue One; Iger revealed the studio aren't expecting the film to do numbers as big as last year's The Force Awakens and that, essentially, the film is "an experiment, of sorts". Indeed, as the first of the planned Star Wars anthology movies - which aren't directly continuing the main Skywalker narrative - it's inevitably somewhat of a risk for the studio.

Iger has, however, seen a rough cut of the film; which he describes as, "really interesting in terms of Star Wars storytelling. Star Wars has only been told as a saga, and this is a moment in time... we love what we’ve seen." He also enthused that interest in the film - in terms of reactions to trailers and posters - has actually been as high as it was for The Force Awakens.

The film has seen extensive reshoots, and recently saw Michael Giacchino replace Alexandre Desplat as composer due to time commitments; though this shouldn't be an immediate sign of worry, as the studio's perfectionist eye could just as likely be at play here.
