From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The first glimpse of Chewbacca from the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode 7 movie has been revealed, and the wookiee hasn’t changed a bit.

A picture of Disney chairman Bob Iger posing with Chewbacca was posted on the official Star Wars Instagram account yesterday to celebrate Star Wars day.

The image was posted with the caption: “Chairman’s new co-pilot #StarWarsDay” with no other information about where the picture was taken, or whether actor Peter Mayhew was inside the costume.

Fans online have been quick to speculate that the picture was taken on set at Pinewood Studios in north London, where the JJ Abrams sequel is being filmed.

But it is yet to be confirmed if Mayhew is indeed inside the costume, or where the photograph was taken.

Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in four previous Star Wars films, confirmed he would be returning to his role last month after speculation he would not play the wookiee due to ill health.

The Star Wars 7 cast was finally confirmed last week after months of speculation, with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill all set to reprise their roles.

Girls actor Adam Driver, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis and Domhall Gleeson will also star in the franchise.

Set 30 years after the 1983’s Return of the Jedi, the sequel is intended as the first instalment of a new trilogy produced by Lucasfilm and its parent company Disney.

Star Wars: Episode 7 is due for release in the UK and US on 18 December, 2015.
