Your support makes all the difference.Sony has released a trailer for new film Morbius, which includes a very surprising cameo from a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) character.
In the same way that Tom Hardy played Venom, Jared Leto stars as another anti-hero from the Spider-Man comics. Following the dispute that almost saw Tom Holland’s web-slinger removed from the MCU, Sony is making it very clear these films are set in the same world as the Disney series.
This is hammered home at the end of the trailer when Michael Keaton‘s Adrian Toomes shows up – a character better known as Spider-Man: Homecoming’s primary villain, the Vulture.
Intriguingly, the Vulture is seen in the same lab coat he was wearing in Homecoming’s post-credits scene.
Another moment from the trailer sees Leto’s character walk past a graffitied picture of Spider-Man that has the word “murderer” sprawled over it. This hints that Morbius is set after the events of the most recent MCU film, Spider-Man: Far from Home, which sees Peter Parker take the rap for the death of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal).
Many fans were confused by Toomes’ appearance and what it means for the overall Sony-Marvel deal.
Morbius – which also stars Matt Smith and Adria Arjona – will be released in cinemas on 31 July.
