In a recent interview with German magazine Zeit-Magazin Mann (picked up by The Playlist), Christopher Waltz revealed he remains in the dark about his return as the villain Blofeld.
“I don’t know about [playing Blofeld again]." He told the publication. “Nobody knows. It wasn’t talked about, except in the press.”
He added: “Right now, nobody even knows which studio will produce the next and if Daniel will return. All of that is filed under ‘carry on.’”
If Craig - who has reportedly been offered $150 million to return to the series - and Waltz return, the Austrian-German actor is hoping to do justice to the role after failing to do so in Spectre.
“I cannot claim that I’ve really nailed Blofeld,” he said. “Overall, it held water and was okay. But it wasn’t what I’ve been looking for. I was searching for more inspiration.”
Recently, an ‘official’ list of replacement candidates was released online, featuring the likes of Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, and Aidan Turner. Whoever plays Bond next, whether Craig or another, will be chosen by producer Barbara Broccoli.
Sony has so far declined to comment on the rumours. Waltz recently starred in The Legend of Tarzan and will soon be in Tulip Fever with Alicia Vikander. Daniel Craig is currently filming Steven Soderbergh's film Logan Lucky, alongside Channing Tatum and Adam Driver.
