From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Bill Cosby may not be up for an award at this year’s Golden Globes, but he certainly looks sure to get a mention.

Golden Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have made a rule that none of the people attending the awards should be scared to be there “because of us,” but as Cosby does not appear to be an attendee, the gloves are off.

When asked by Access Hollywood if any Cosby jokes would be made during the awards show this Sunday, Fey emphatically replied: “Heck yes!”

Fey and Poehler, known for their risqué but well received jokes, are returning to host this Sunday’s awards ceremony for the third year in a row. Some of their best jokes last year included: “Now, like a supermodel’s vagina, let’s say hello to Leonardo DiCaprio,” and, “For [Matthew McConaughey’s] role in Dallas Buyers Club, he lost 45lbs. Or what actresses call, ‘being in a movie’.”

Cosby himself made light of the serious allegations of sexual abuse surrounding him at a comedy performance in Canada last night, quipping to an audience member: “You have to be careful about drinking around me,” which was met with applause.

At least 15 women have now accused the 77-year-old comedian and actor of drugging and sexually assaulting them. Three more women came forward to levy allegations against Cosby on Thursday. Cosby has denied the allegations.
