From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The US actress plays submissive student Anastasia Steele alongside Jamie Dornan in the movie adaptation of EL James’ hugely popular erotic novel, but fancies trading in the Red Room for some superhero adventures.
“I can totally be Catwoman, okay? Everyone needs to know that!” she told The Independent, giving the thumbs up to the idea of Fifty Shades’ Sam Taylor-Johnson directing.
The 25-year-old is less enamoured at the thought of taking up the Spider-Man (or woman) mantle from Andrew Garfield.
“It would be cool if someone came up with a new idea as opposed to remakes,” she said, while discussing Marvel’s recent deal with Sony Pictures that could see Spidey feature in the likes of Captain America and Thor.
As for the Fifty Shades sequels, seemingly confirmed by Taylor-Johnson last week, Johnson admits that yes, she would “love to make those”.
She shot two “completely different” movies after shooting wrapped on Fifty Shades: Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass with Johnny Depp and Bigger Splash, in which she plays “a sociopath crazy person”.
Next up is a romcom, How To Be Single, which she promises is going to be “really funny with some incredible actresses”.
“Women know what happens privately in a woman’s mind,” she said. “In the past ten, twenty years, that’s started to become more relevant in art and in movies, you get a glimpse into what a girl is like with her friends, and by herself. Men, I think, don’t really understand that.”
