Fast and Furious fans were left reeling from a shock reveal in the trailer for the next film in the franchise.

The extended look at the ninth film in the blockbuster series arrived after a concert in Miami that featured performances from Lucadris, Cardi B and Charlie Puth.

At the end of the trailer, Han – the fan favourite character who seemingly perished in Tokyo Drift – appears.

Director Justin Lin has since confirmed that actor Sung Kang will play a big part in the film, news that has confused fans.

Many are now jokily assuming that the series, known for its zany plot twists, will explain his return using time travel.

This instalment follows Vin Diesel’s character, Dom Toretto, as he attempts to live a peaceful life off the grid with his wife Letty, played by Michelle Rodriguez.

But naturally, danger looms – this time in the form of Dom’s brother Jakob, a skilled assassin and driver played by John Cena.

The trailer was revealed in the lead-up to Super Bowl weekend in the US.

Fast & Furious 9 will be released on 22 May 2020 in the UK and the US. The first film in the series, The Fast and the Furious, was released in 2000.
