There’s been some trepidation around Tim Burton’s remake of Dumbo, many fans of the animated classic being concerned that the 3D rendering would look bizarre.

Fears were certainly not put to rest last year as Disney revealed a maquette of the titular elephant at D23, The Independent describing the results as “nightmare-inducing”.

Finally, we now have a trailer for the re-imagining of the story looking more palatable than many thought. Watch above.

Starring Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, Eva Green and Michael Keaton, Disney has also revealed an official synopsis for the movie.

“Disney’s new live-action feature film Dumbo introduces Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.”

Dumbo marks the latest classic animated movie to be re-made as a live-action movie, following in the success of The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and Alice in Wonderland. Future adaptations include Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid.

The original Dumbo was released back in 1941 and won the Oscar for for best scoring of a musical picture. Behind the scenes, Burton’s movie brings in Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Ben Davis as cinematographer Star Wars: The Last Jedi set designer Rick Heinrichs, Alice in Wonderland‘s Colleen Atwood as costume designer, and Maleficent‘s Chris Lebenzon as editor.

Dumbo reaches cinemas March 2019.
