Unfortunately for Marvel, they can’t seem to keep a lid on leaked set photos when it comes to Doctor Strange.

On a variety of occasions, snappers have managed to capture Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the latest revelations showing the pair galloping around the streets of New York.

Unfortunately for the studio - but fortunately for fans - the first pictures of Hannibal’s Mads Mikkelsen in costume have leaked online, showing a very sinister-looking villain.

In them, Mikkelsen’s eyes are surrounded by make-up, the skin cracking, giving way to dark purple eyeshadow.

Many fans believe he is set to play Marvel comic’s Dormammu, a mystic being who may have taken over a human host in this situation. Others think he may be playing Nightmare, an enemy of Doctor Strange who is characterised by a green costume and often glowing eyes.

Starring alongside Cumberbatch, Ejiofor and Mikkelsen will be Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Transparent’s Amy Landecker, The Martian’s Benedict Wong, and Broadwalk Empire’s Michael Stuhlbarg.

Filming has so far taken place in Nepal and Pinewood Studios, UK. Set pictures from both locations have emerged online previously.

Doctor Strange will hit cinemas 4 November while the character is speculated to appear in a post-credits scene for the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.
