Your support makes all the difference.Before Deadpool reached cinemas, barely anyone thought the film would be a success. After the character - played by Ryan Reynolds - appeared in the disastrous X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Fox lost hope in the obnoxious superhero.
It wasn’t until just under two minutes of test footage leaked online - director Tim Miller rumoured to have uploaded the footage himself - that the studio once again took notice once more, mainly thanks to fan outcry for more.
What followed was a $40 million superhero film, spearheaded by Reynolds, Miller, writers Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick, that went on to break records and gross over $700 million worldwide.
As with all good things, Fox almost immediately announced a sequel, with the core four creatives set to return. However, reports have now emerged that Miller has left the upcoming project - set for release in 2018 - due to ‘creative differences’.
According to Deadline, the exit was mutual, ending amicably with Fox still pursuing the director for another project: Influx, an adaptation of Daniel Suarez’s novel.
However, fans of the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ will be more than disappointed, as Miller’s input into creating the first film’s tone and his persistence in getting it made were crucial to Deadpool's huge success.
Luckily, Fox has another ace ups its sleeve: the day before Miller announced his departure, the studio released the trailer for Logan - AKA Wolverine 3 - another R-Rated X-Men film.
