Seemingly out of nowhere, JJ Abrams announced a second Cloverfield film, 10 Cloverfield Lane, the John Goodman-starring flick hitting cinemas just weeks later.

According to The Wrap, another of the Star Wars director’s upcoming projects, titled God Particle, is actually a third film in the Cloverfield series. Abrams announced he was producing the film back in 2012 but was delayed due to Paramount's InSurge label closing.

An insider revealed to the publication how Paramount Pictures are hoping to develop a shared Cloverfield universe, releasing a film every year.

Filming began on God Particle, which will no doubt receive a name change in the near future, in June earlier this year, with Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Zhang Ziyi, David Oyelowo and Chris O’Dowd all starring.

According to the plot synopses, God Particle follows a team of astronauts aboard a space station who find themselves alone after a scientific experiment cause earth to ‘disappear’. Another space shuttle then approaches the team who are unsure whether they are friend or foe.

Fans began speculating about the film being another Cloverfield film after viral marketing for 10 Cloverfield Lane included a sound-clip believed to be from the International Space Station.

God Particle currently has a release date of 24 February 2017, while footage from the film is expected to be shown at a Paramount presentation in New York on the 2 November.

Meanwhile, JJ Abrams has continued to produce excellent TV shows, his latest being the fantastic Westworld, our review for which you can read here.
