There's already been a fair amount of talk from Infinity War's cast about a superhero-packed scene: Scarlett Johansson told Stephen Colbert that one scene contained 32 different Marvel characters, while Anthony Mackie rounded that number up to 40, tying it to the battle in Wakanda, while giving a couple of specifics on who might appear.
“There was one day we were on set and were doing this scene that’s in the trailer where we’re all running to battle, you know, all of us are on set and it’s like forty superheroes," he told the crowd at Ace Comic-Con.
"I look to my right and I see Tom Holland and Dave Bautista. I see them in the corner and Tom is literally the size of Dave’s leg, I don’t know what they’re talking about but Bautista jumps up and does a kick-punch move and I was like ‘Yo, you’re about to kill him!'"
Meanwhile, the Russo Brothers hinted to Collider that the scene in Infinity War is equivalent (and more) to Civil War's airport scene in scope. Joe Russo specifically teased: "We have an equivalent that's like, if you had a comic book and you open it up to your double panel and then you fold it out, and then you folded it out again and again."
While speaking to The Independent, however, Sebastian Stan offered an additional interesting piece of insight; describing a sequence in which not only he appears, but some surprising Marvel characters.
"There was one scene, I think, we had where everybody was there. I can't really talk about that scene, but I knew it took them three months in planning this scene to have everyone there," he said. "You look around and you just saw everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to Michael Douglas to Michelle Pfeiffer. Everybody was there."
"So, I just kind of stood in the corner and looked and wanted to see how everybody was going to react. It's surreal."
What's so particularly odd to see Stan mention is Michelle Pfeiffer. Her character, Janet van Dyne, the Wasp, was lost in the Quantum Realm years ago; she bequeathed both the suit and the title of the Wasp to her daughter Hope, played by Evangeline Lilly.
Of course, Pfeiffer's been slated to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp, out in July, and it's been partially assumed that she'll be somehow rescued from the Quantum Realm over the course of that film. Why she would appear in Avengers: Infinity War, considering that film is released first, is a little confusing.
So, is this a different scene set to feature in Avengers 4 that he's referencing? Or will Pfeiffer be making an early appearance? It's a mystery, for sure.
Avengers: Infinity War hits UK cinemas 26 April.
