Marvel fans are feverish with excitement after Anthony Mackie teased an Avengers: Infinity War scene featuring 40 superheroes.

The actor, who plays Falcon, was speaking at Ace Comic-Con when he talked about his experiences filming the scene which sounds like it'll be the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest to date.

“There was one day we were on set and were doing this scene that’s in the trailer where we’re all running to battle, you know, all of us are on set and it’s like forty superheroes. I look to my right and I see Tom Holland and Dave Bautista. I see them in the corner and Tom is literally the size of Dave’s leg, I don’t know what they’re talking about but Bautista jumps up and does a kick-punch move and I was like ‘Yo, you’re about to kill him!'”

Mackie's anecdote falls by the wayside next to the passing mention of “forty superheroes” - a tidbit that has fans frantically imagining a scene featuring every single MCU superhero we've seen on the big screen since 2008, and then some.

Speaking about the characters' state of mind following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Mackie said: “Coming off such a huge battle that these characters are coming off of, everybody’s trying to find their footing again. Everybody’s trying to figure out where they are and how they’ll be accepted and looked upon, not only by the rest of the world but by the other heroes since we’ve been separated.

“So that’s kind the overall idea of where we’re coming from and how do we get out of that to save the world.”

The film will see Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and company on-screen alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy - led by Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana - for the first time in a film that will pit the heroes against Josh Brolin's Thanos.

The remainder of the confirmed ensemble includes Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Don Cheadle, Pom Klementieff, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Sean Gunn and Paul Rudd.

Next on the Marvel slate is Black Panther which is already breaking records ahead of its release on 12 February. Avengers: Infinity War is released in UK cinemas on 27 April.
