Indian actors Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan are set to star in the Indian remake of the Hollywood comedy-drama The Intern.

Padukone will take on the role of Jules, played by Anne Hathaway in the 2015 original, while Bachchan will step in to play the part of Ben Whittaker, Robert De Nero’s character.

Bachchan will supplant late actor Rishi Kapoor who was to star in the film but died in 2020 after battling cancer for two years.

Padukone took to Instagram to reveal the first poster of the film, where she wrote: "What an absolute honour to be collaborating with one of my most special co-stars again! Welcoming Amitabh Bachchan to the Indian adaptation of #TheIntern."

The film will be directed and produced by Indian director and producer Amit Sharma, Warner Bros. Pictures India, KA productions, and content development & production company Athena ENM.

The Intern is the story, written by Nancy Meyers, of a 70-year-old widower who discovers that retirement isn’t all fun and games. Taking advantage of an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, established and run by Jules Ostin.
