Although many parts of the UK have seen wet weather in the last day, the Met Office is predicting a high pressure front is set to bring much balmier conditions, with temperatures hitting as high as 25 degrees by Wednesday.
From Sunday most of the UK will enjoy fine summery weather, Helen Roberts, a Met Office forecaster said.
“There will be lots of warm sunshine over the next few days,” she reported. “Probably Wednesday looks like the pick of the week for the most of us.”
Sunday morning is likely to be dry and sunny, though there will be some patchy cloud across Northern Ireland and western Scotland.
The day is likely to remain dry with sunny spells, with the occasional shower over southeast and northern England.
Monday will be largely fine and dry across the UK, with long spells of sunshine.
Despite the warmer weather, patchy cloud is expected in northern Scotland, while the mornings may bring mist to eastern England.
The mercury is then set to rocket up towards some of the hottest temperatures seen so far in 2019, with places in southeast England and Scotland likely to see highs of 24 and 25 degrees, Ms Roberts said.
“Most of next week looks nice, although things could start to begin to turn more unsettled towards the end of the week,” she said.
Should the balmy conditions come to pass, parts of the UK would be hotter on Wednesday than Athens, Rio de Janeiro or Tunisia.
“Daytimes will be generally warm though cooler near southern and eastern coasts,” a Met Office spokesperson said.
But cooler weather will arrive around Thursday.
“Fine and dry weather will stretch into Thursday, albeit with more cloud around and lower temperatures,” a Met Office spokesperson said.
“Showers will become increasingly likely across the UK on Friday along with strengthening winds.”
The hot spell will end quickly: by Friday the winds will lower the temperature “below the seasonal average”, the spokesperson added.
This more unsettled weather is expected to continue over next weekend.
