I've had a sneak peek at Trump's points-based immigration plan — and it's pretty wild
This test is not for white males. If you are a white male, head directly to Go, collect $200 and enjoy your monopoly. If you are a black male, go directly to jail
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Trump administration announced plans to overhaul US immigration policy this week, in a bid to transition from a system that promotes family-based migration to one that emphasizes skills. The administration is proposing a points-based system to evaluate aspiring migrants along four dimensions: skills, finances, English-speaking ability, and civics knowledge.
No one has yet seen the specific test which Trump wants to be applied, although a draft written by Jared and Ivanka Trump was leaked to the press last night. Luckily your correspondent has seen the leak and can report on its contents:
Welcome to the US Immigration Test
This test is not for white males. If you are a white male, head directly to Go, collect $200 and enjoy your monopoly over industries in the United States.

Everyone else must take the test. Note: Lying on this test is permitted if your name is Sarah, Kelly or Anne. Otherwise lying is not permitted. Unless your name is Conrad, in which case you’ll be pardoned.
