Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

There has been a feeling among the Labour party in some circles that victory is a bourgeois concept and the true objective of socialism is glorious defeat. I don't hold that view and neither does Tony Blair - Alan Johnson, joint general secretary of the Communication Workers Union.

They haven't gone away, you know - Gerry Adams, at a Belfast rally after a supporter called out, "Bring back the IRA."

We didn't have counsellors rushing around every time somebody let off a gun, you know, asking, "Are you all right - are you sure you don't have a ghastly problem?" You just got on with it - The Duke of Edinburgh on how his shipmates in the Pacific coped with life at war.

I don't think much has been going on between Will and the Princess - Gary Lineker, former England footballer, on speculation about Will Carling and the Princess of Wales.

When Christopher Isherwood started a book with the line "I am a camera", I don't think people rushed around believing he was a box Brownie - Stewart Steven, editor of the Evening Standard.
