I wonder if any Labour MPs  will ask for Tony Blair to be kicked out of the party after the release of the offshore data in the Pandora Papers? I expect they’re not brave enough, or maybe they’re just too ensconced these days in the Westminster pool of political cronyism.

It would seem that the Conservatives also have serious questions to answer about where their funding comes from. How many of them are also benefitting from offshore arrangements?

Isn’t it obvious that there is no cultural difference between making illegal payments of millions to secure lucrative telecoms contracts and making contributions to political party funds?

It is only the size of the bribe that changes and probably represents the transitory nature of politicians and perhaps the poor value of investing in them.

To me it seems that there is only one reason for these payments, and that is to gain personal advantage either in securing some bauble or in distorting government policy and the democratic process to the disadvantage of others.

I would love to have some alternative in mind as to how a fair society should operate but, apart from increasing awareness that this capitalist democratic system is broken, I am devoid of ideas.

‘Immigrant’ has become a dirty word

I am deeply saddened by the article Andrea Rammone wrote on leaving our country. I am a “senior citizen” and I voted to remain in the EU.

To Professor Rammone I would like to extend my apologies and express my shame at the behaviour of my fellow citizens and our government who have turned “immigrant” into a dirty word.

Climate protectors

Climate change protesters are courageous altruists. They are putting themselves in danger for the sake of future generations. Johnson and Patel will stop them only by listening to their demands.

It should be the destruction of the planet that is illegal, not pointing it out to the government.

Contempt and bluster

Boris Johnson’s appearance on The Andrew Marr Show over the weekend was shameful.  Does he not realise the country is in crisis on his watch? He treats the public with contempt.

We have all the usual bluster and no grasp of any detail. His response to farmers having to slaughter and destroy pigs before they enter the food chain due a shortage of workers was farcical. Let’s see who the biggest turkey is going to be at Christmas!

The government had no plan for Covid – it has no plan now.
