Following on from Linda Evans’ letter regarding the largesse, that I unwittingly contributed towards as a taxpayer, shown by Liz Truss to her guests, I suggest that next time she entertains, she takes them to Pizza Express.

If it’s good enough for Prince Andrew it should be good enough for her!

Plastic-free fruit and veg

France has decided to ban the majority of fruit and vegetables from being wrapped in plastic, which sounds great to me.

Are we unable to follow in their footsteps because it would be too European and not in line with our Brexit aspirations?

The Giuffre-Epstein settlement

A pay out in a private company aimed at preventing a senior executive joining a competitor is one thing.

But how can the law allow wealthy individuals like Epstein or major corporations to escape justice by using their wealth to give them impunity?

Unfortunately, it is a scathing example of how the rule of law and our democratic societies are succumbing to the power of money.

An albatross around the neck of the monarchy

Whatever happens with the civil law case, Prince Andrew is, rightly or wrongly, finished for good as a public figure. There is no prospect whatsoever of him making a comeback.

Whenever the redtop media catches sight of him, they will resurrect the accusations and photographs. He is and will be the dead albatross around the neck of the monarchy unless he is cut loose.

Is Pluto a planet? Let the facts decide

The nature of Pluto might change again, as some scientists want it returned to its planetary status. Really, it doesn’t matter that much whether it is a planet or not, but let’s not vote on it.

As a retired science teacher, I can remember teaching the scientific method which was based on observation and experimentation but never voting. Pluto was voted out by a count of 237 votes in favour, 157 against, although many people had left before the discussion and vote.

What worries science teachers and probably most scientists is that people can establish a “fact” by voting on the matter. Perhaps we should vote on whether the earth is flat or not. It won’t be 0 per cent for flat, as some people do believe that the earth is flat or at least say they do.

Science must be based on fact.

Boris behind the scenes

Yet again we see our prime minister at his best, working behind the scenes and on the front line in Aylesbury to keep our country going instead of introducing even more Covid restrictions.

His battle plan is the result of yet more hard work done over the Christmas period whilst many others were quite rightly enjoying time with their loved ones.

Boris Johnson and Steve Barclay have done a fantastic job helping the NHS and other public services hold their nerve whilst awaiting the very latest Omicron data.

So many unsung heroes have done such a great job over the Christmas and new year period too and we all owe them the utmost thanks and gratitude.
