In the aftermath of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, I believe the media debate has too quickly narrowed to first, photographs, and second, Princes William and Harry. The promises to refrain from seeking or using intrusive pictures of the two princes is, of course, welcome but ignores the broader issues of intrusive journalism.
People are rightly crying out for the Windsors to become more human and less stoical. We should let them do so. Privately.
It is not hard to suppose that in his grief, Prince Charles will at some stage visit Camilla Parker Bowles. Will that be treated as a newsworthy event? In "good grief" people typically seek out the companionship of close friends. They want physical contact and the consolation which comes from hugs and kisses. Prince Charles deserves to be allowed the maturity of such grief.
