Your support makes all the difference.AS A speaker at the rally held at Donnington Castle, Newbury, I disagreed with your coverage of the event (News, page 2, 10 March).
Although it was held at Newbury and the bypass did colour many contributions, the rally was held to draw attention to the wider issue of the destruction of our historic environment. Archaeological sites are totally non-renewable, each one is unique and many contribute to the character of the local environment, such as barrows on the Sussex or Wiltshire Downs.
Despite planning controls,there are still too many opportunities for the destruction of our heritage without adequate debate or, should destruction go ahead, recording. The construction of trunk roads is a prime example.
