We're marching on Saturday because Brexit will hit young people the hardest

Theresa May asks for Brexit delay until June in letter to EU

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

We, the undersigned, are the elected representatives of learners from across the United Kingdom. We speak on behalf of students from higher education, further education and apprenticeship providers.

Through our collective roles, we represent 830,000 learners across the UK.

Brexit is a generation-defining issue. It threatens to make us permanently poorer, and to limit the life chances of the young. It's why the overwhelming majority of young people and students voted to stay in the European Union in 2016, and why we back a People's Vote.

We are legitimately, and credibly concerned about our futures.

But politicians have let us down.

Their warm words cannot hide a simple truth – that Brexit will hit young people the hardest, for the longest.

So on Saturday, young people and students will be marching to demand that parliament #PutItToThePeople – and back a People's Vote.

There is no Brexit Deal that doesn't harm young people, or delivers on the promises of three years ago. There is no Brexit that doesn't exclude 2 million new voters, who have been shut out of the Brexit debate for the last three years.

We urge all MPs to join us on the streets of London, to show their support for young people. Our backing is not unconditional, and any politician that facilitates Brexit will be risking the support of young people and students.
