Boris Johnson speaks at the CBI annual conference on Monday (PA)

A Tory MP has stated that Boris Johnson’s disastrous performance at the CBI conference was as a result of being under a great deal of stress for the last fortnight, and he thinks he needs a break. There’s only so much one human being can stand, he says. That is the definition of someone who is not up to the job.

Perhaps we should be more concerned about the doctors and healthcare workers risking their lives and those of their families on a daily basis, while dealing with the results of the prime minister’s unforgivable handling of the pandemic.

Climate catastrophe

I agree with Donnachadh McCarthy’s article, ‘The climate crisis has put all of us on the Titanic – we are, quite literally, sinking’ (Voices, 21 November). Cop26 was not a success. We won’t be able to limit global heating to 1.5C. Instead we are heading for an environmental disaster.

Once again world leaders, especially from richer polluting nations, have failed to do enough to tackle the climate crisis and show real support for developing countries. Boris Johnson’s climate promises never materialised and the reality is that the deal his government oversaw in Glasgow wasn’t good enough.

The effects of climate change will be felt around the globe with disastrous consequences of extreme weather conditions costing lives, livelihoods, loss of land, creating food shortages and resulting in evacuations, famine, migration of people, and demands for foreign financial and humanitarian aid.

Many parts of the world will be uninhabitable and droughts will lead to extreme global water shortages. It’s not just animal species that will become extinct, but our own existence is at risk.

Out by Christmas

Some weeks ago I made a £10 bet with my husband that Boris Johnson will be out by Christmas. The winnings (either way) will go to a charity. Fingers crossed.

Solar energy

The requirement for every newly built house to have a car-charging point may be a good idea, but why not also provide the house with solar panels to tap into the God-given energy and reduce the drain on the national grid to supply these charging points?
