Sir: Having read Cardinal Hume's article concluding that 'the family' may be a suitable focus for a Royal Commission, I suspect that 'the community' would be a better one.

Families fragment, but the dangers can be diminished if support, including approval and disapproval as well as help, are available. The spread of the motor car does make this more difficult, but 'villages' can be found in the centre of London as well as in Wiltshire. These are invaluable and should be widely and practically encouraged.
