Sir: If one imagined that those people who are selfish, self-indulgent bores are so because of their own feelings of insecurity, and that they merely use them as a kind of defence mechanism, is it just possible that, on average, they have a shorter life expectancy because of the stress resulting from their feelings of angst rather than as a result of being selfish or self-indulgent?
