Letter: Sweeping away myths about women at home
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sir: I did not choose 'soiled nappies and 15 years' vacuuming' (Letters, 30 March) when I chose to care for my children full-time, it is just part of the dross that comes with an otherwise enjoyable job. I also do not see my current role as permanent. When my second child starts school, I might embark on a 'sparkling career' or perhaps choose some other path to take.
Whatever I do, I hope that I will be defined by my personality and interests and not just by my occupation and salary. There are many different roles in society and we cannot fit into all of them, all of the time. If we could start to value people for who they are and not just what they do then we might be able to achieve equality not just between the sexes but throughout society.
Yours faithfully,
CAROLINE NEWELL
