Letter: Roads to ruin, and the green motorist's vote
Sir: After reading the article regarding the M11 extension ('The antis' road show', 7 February), and feeling a deal of empathy with the protesters there involved, it was with some despair that on an evening television news programme I spotted a besuited RAC spokesman demanding that the construction of the M25 link roads goes ahead.
I don't know about the rest of your readers, but I pay for membership of the RAC and their like as cover against mechanical failure and to have my little-used car returned to me in that case, not to finance an organisation that promotes the view of the road- building lobby.
I would be most astounded to see the insurance company that provides my house buildings cover actively campaign for the national parks to be turned into various 'prestigious developments'.
Perhaps it is time for us car owners who do not wish to be associated with these views to vote with our wheels.
Yours faithfully,
STEVE CHAPMAN
