We have been wanting to replace our 20-year old German fridge-freezer, but have been putting off the expenditure while it still works in the hope that the strong pound would bring the price down.
Today my wife happened to call at the retailer from whom we intended to buy its replacement, also German and, incidentally, hardly changed in its design. She bought it there and then. Because tomorrow the price is going not down but up, by about 12.5 per cent - a natural free-market response to demand, one suspects.
