Sir: At the age of 20, when his destroyer was sunk in Malta convoys, my husband lost a leg. The total of his pensions (including mobility allowance - and with no lump sum) over the past 52 years is less than half of that awarded to the woman dismissed from the army on becoming pregnant (report, 9 April).
Like most of his generation, my husband got on with life (without benefit of counsellors) and we are by no means pleading poverty or seeking sympathy. But where is the justice in this present tribunal system? Thousands of women lost their husbands in the war and were denied the privilege of having children at all.
Yours faithfully,
SARAH JENKINS
