Your support makes all the difference.The article "NHS chiefs fly to Canada to find nurses" (8 September) highlights the shortage of trainee nurses in this country. Shadow health minister Tessa Jowell says this is due to low morale causing a high drop out rate. How will recruiting abroad address this in the long term?
Low morale is linked to financial recognition. The below rate of inflation increase of 1 per cent for 1995-96 from government and the fact that many trusts have still not awarded increases on local pay due last April are not incentives with which to attract nurses, from here or abroad.
