Sir: I suspect that it is not widely apparent that William Donaldson's diary in your Saturday newspaper ('Done dealing in Ladbroke Grove', 29 May) is in fact a humorous column.

May I therefore make it clear that, notwithstanding Mr Donaldson's 1,500-word article describing in great detail my recent lunch with him, I have never met William Donaldson.
