PHIL Reeves's observations about the Oscar ceremonies and Midwesterners ('Where Oscar is just a flashy pinko liberal' 27 March) were at once nave and misleading.
Many in the Midwest were touched by the remarks of Best Actor winner Tom Hanks. To dismiss sympathy expressed for Aids or Holocaust victims as so much 'hot air' is deeply offensive to the vast millions of Americans who propelled Philadelphia to the top of the movie charts.
